Wikipedia - Scottish Premiership

The Scottish Premiership, also known as the William Hill Premiership for sponsorship reasons, is a professional association football league in Scotland and the highest level of the Scottish football league system. The top division of the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL), the Scottish Premiership was established in July 2013, after the SPFL was formed by a merger of the Scottish Premier League and Scottish Football League. There are 12 teams in this division, with each team playing 38 matches per season. Sixteen clubs have played in the Scottish Premiership since its creation in the 2013–14 season. Celtic are the current league champions, having won the 2024–25 Scottish Premiership.

The Scotland Premiership, officially known as the Scottish Premiership, is the top professional football league in Scotland. Established as the premier competition for Scottish clubs, it features some of the most historic and successful teams in the country, including Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen, and Heart of Midlothian. The league operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Scottish Championship, ensuring competitive balance and excitement throughout the season.

The Premiership typically consists of 12 teams that compete in a season spanning from August to May. Teams play each other multiple times, with the league split into a championship and relegation group in the latter stages to determine the final standings. The club with the most points at the end of the season is crowned the Scottish champions, earning the prestigious title and qualification for European competitions such as the UEFA Champions League and Europa League.

Known for its passionate fan base, historic rivalries—most notably the Old Firm rivalry between Celtic and Rangers—and vibrant football culture, the Scotland Premiership offers thrilling matches and a rich tradition of Scottish football excellence. It continues to be a vital part of Scotland’s sporting landscape, showcasing local talent and attracting fans from around the world.
