Wikipedia - Esiliiga

The Esiliiga is the second division in the Estonian football league system. The Esiliiga is ranked below the Meistriliiga and above the Esiliiga B.

As in most countries with low temperatures in winter time, the season starts in March and ends in November. The league features several reserve teams of Meistriliiga clubs. According to the rules set by the Estonian Football Association, reserve teams are ineligible for promotion to the Meistriliiga, but can play in the Estonian Cup.

The Estonia Esiliiga is the second tier of professional football in Estonia, serving as a crucial stepping stone for clubs aspiring to reach the top division, the Meistriliiga. Established in 1992, the Esiliiga features a competitive format that showcases emerging talent and provides a platform for clubs to develop their skills and strategies.

The tournament typically consists of a number of teams that compete in a round-robin format, with each club playing home and away matches throughout the season. The league operates on a promotion and relegation system, where the top teams earn the opportunity to ascend to the Meistriliiga, while the lower-performing teams face the risk of relegation to the Esiliiga B, the third tier of Estonian football.

The Esiliiga is known for its passionate fan base and vibrant matchday atmosphere, with clubs often drawing support from local communities. It serves as a vital part of Estonia's football ecosystem, nurturing young players and providing them with essential experience in a competitive environment.

In addition to the excitement of the matches, the Esiliiga also plays a significant role in the development of football in Estonia, contributing to the national team's talent pool and fostering a love for the sport across the country. With its rich history and commitment to growth, the Estonia Esiliiga continues to be a key player in the landscape of Estonian football.
